MY APPROACH
TO COACHING
Medicine is both demanding and transformative—yet we often expect people to navigate its complexity without adequate support. As a family physician, faculty member, and executive, I have seen trainees shy away from difficult conversations, supervisors struggle to elevate their teams, and senior leaders feel overwhelmed by the weight of change. I have faced these challenges myself. Promoted early for my clinical expertise, I was given no training in how to lead. I made mistakes—many of them. With the support of a coach and mentors, I developed the self-awareness and skills to lead with confidence.
That journey fuels my commitment to coaching. I believe people are inherently capable and resourceful. My role is not to fix them, but to challenge and support them in unlocking their potential. Like patient care, coaching is a focused partnership built on deep listening, honest reflection, and the courage to question limiting assumptions.
Consulting and coaching complement one another but serve different purposes. As a consultant, I provide expertise—analyzing operations, shaping strategy, and offering clear recommendations. As a coach, I step out of the expert role. I trust clients to generate their own best answers and help them gain clarity, broaden perspective, and take bold, values-aligned action.
When leaders grow, teams and organizations transform. By integrating consulting and coaching, I aim to build a healthcare system led by individuals who are not only operationally strong, but deeply self-aware, courageous, and human.
